ICD NEW DATE
Dear Fellows and Inductees,
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Executive Committee of the European Section of the ICD has decided to postpone the Annual Meeting, which was supposed to take place in Oporto, Portugal next June 11th to 14th 2020, until next year.
Thanks to the generosity of the following ICD Presidents, Dr. Walter van Driel and Dr. Dov Sydney, who postponed their own meetings to the following years, i.e., Amsterdam will be held in 2022 and Jerusalem will be held in 2023, the meeting in Oporto is now confirmed to take place from June 24th to the 27th 2021. The program will be the same, and we were able to maintain the same hotels and the same venues for all the scientific and social events.
For those who have already registered and paid hotels and in case they want to maintain their reservations, we assure them that these fees will not increase. Also, as a token of our appreciation in maintaining your registration, we can guarantee there will be no increase in neither the registration fee nor in hotel accommodation as well as gifting you, at your arrival, with a special present.
For those who would prefer their money back, this will obviously be possible. However, in case the payment was done through a bank transfer, the CPO will deduct 50 € from the total amount paid by the participant. In the case of payments done through a credit card, apart from the 1.8% the Visa/MasterCard/any other card charges, an extra 30 € will be charged by the CPO.
I am absolutely disheartened to bring you this sad news but postponing the Annual Meeting is done primarily for the safety of every Participant. It will be a long journey for everyone, and I would like to wish you an uneventful time and I would also wish that you stay safe and healthy.
See You all in Oporto in June 2021.
President of the ICD-European Section
Dear Fellows and Guests,
It is an enormous pleasure and privilege for me to invite you all to come to Oporto for the 65th annual meeting of the European Section of the International College of Dentists.
Oporto was chosen as the place to hold the Annual Meeting this year because Portugal is definitely becoming a trendy destination and if there’s a city that reflects this tendency it is Oporto. The city has conquered the hearts of everyone who visits, winning each one of them with its cultural diversity and delightful hotels.
As you may know, Oporto is Portugal’s second largest city and one of its most important ports. It sits along the banks of the beautiful Douro River and, of course, is the home of the world famous Port wine. Consequently, the city boasts many wineries but also has many and varied restaurants where you can sample a delicious and assorted cuisine. Oporto is an ancient city and its most important cathedral (Sé do Porto) dates back to the XII century. As such, you will find numerous quaint streets which make for charming walks. The conference hotel is the Palácio do Freixo on the banks of the river near Central Oporto and where the welcome reception and scientific meeting will be held.
On Friday, while the Fellows are attending the Scientific Meeting, the accompanying persons will enjoy a city tour allowing them to explore the city’s shops ferried by the local tuk-tuk’s followed by lunch by the river with a tram ride on the way back to the city. On Friday evening, the conference dinner will be held at a winery - Caves Real Companhia Velha - where we will have the opportunity to tour the premises and sample the wine.
The Induction ceremony and Gala dinner will be held at Palácio da Bolsa in downtown Oporto.
On Sunday, we will have the post conference tour which consists of a bus ride to Pinhão, a town on the Douro River, where we will board a traditional boat used to ferry wine casks up and down the river. The boat will take us to a local winery - Quinta Nova - where we will be having lunch.
I hope you will enjoy your stay in this beautiful city.
